•The Connection Between A Dream Girl and Madame X •

For Carl Sandburg, his dream lady was someone who could command a room effortlessly with grace and poise. It had nothing to do with how she dressed or what color hair she had. Sandburg never names his "dream girl", but by using the familiar term of "you" it seems as if he knows her or knows she exsits. This girl is very mysterious, and almost not a girl at all. When Sandburg describes her with "slim, expressive arms, a poise of the head no sculptor has caught and nuances spoken with shoulder and neck," it seems as if he is talking about a yound lady and not a child.
When I first saw Madame X i felt very excited, as if I were looking at some old hidden secret. John Singer Sargent caputes a beautiful and elequent woman that has an aura of mystery around her. She is a young lady, with expressive arms soft pale skin which make her seem virginly but also extremly sexy, like "tender dew." She also has a very pale distinct neck, like marble. Madame X also does not look towards the painter and instead keeps the mystery of what her entire face looks like
